Esther M. Suhs, of Waupaca, age 96, went to bed and woke up in heaven, on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Park Vista.
She was born in the Town of Dayton on June 8, 1924 to the late Leopold and Karren (Larsen) Zempel. She was married to Lyle R. Suhs on October 25, 1947 at Crystal Lake Methodist Church in the Town of Dayton with Rev. John A. Wagner officiating. Kenneth Suhs Sr. and Luretta Marquard were their witnesses. She was a very hard working, determined person. Esther always had a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. Her generosity will never be forgotten. Esther was a long-time and very active member of First Baptist Church; she taught the four year olds in Sunday School and was Sunday School Treasurer. She was also a charter member of Esther Group. She loved to read her bible and it was well worn! Esther was also very faithful and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She and her husband owned and operated Suh’s Produce truck for many years. Everyone lined up on the town square to buy their sweet corn. She enjoyed gardening and still had a garden at the age of 91. She was an excellent seamstress and her many quilts were magnificent. She loved cooking, baking, canning and making jam. Esther enjoyed traveling and putting puzzles together.
Family was everything to her, both her own family and others. She will be sadly missed by her grandson, Jonathan (Stephanie Gasper) Nicewander; sister-in-law, Marguerite Zempel, nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, and daughter, Susan Nicewander, brothers and sisters, Franklin Zempel, Margaret Kinison, William Zempel, Luretta Bonnell.
The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 1500 Roman Road, with Pastor Larry Gross and Pastor Tyler Snell officiating. The visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to First Baptist Church. The Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family.
