Fans limited for playoff

Manawa to host Mishicot Nov. 13

By Greg Seubert

A limited number of tickets will be available for the Manawa football team’s upcoming WIAA playoff game.

The Wolves will host Mishicot at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in a Level 1 game at the Manawa Athletic Complex. Manawa received a No. 2 seed in Division 5, while Mishicot is a No. 3 seed.

The Manawa School Board approved a game hosting plan Nov. 11.

According to the plan, 140 tickets will be available for each school.

“It’s similar to us hosting a regional playoff game for volleyball. If we are going to have home fans be able to attend playoff games, we need to make playoff tickets available as well for the other side,” high school principal Dan Wolfgram said.

The stadium has a maximum capacity of 1,120, which includes 1,000 people in the bleachers and 120 along the fence line.

“We ended up coming to our number by calculating what the maximum capacity of the Manawa Athletic Complex under normal circumstances and following county health guidelines of 25 percent of that,” Wolfgram said.

The district would make 280 tickets available, with each school getting half.

According to the plan, each player and coach will have the opportunity to purchase up to four tickets and make them available to family members or students.

Students would have the opportunity to purchase any remaining tickets, with priority given to seniors.

The game is part of the WIAA state tournament series, which means that admission will be charged. Tickets will cost $6 for students and adults or $1 for children 5 and under.

“We do have to charge for all tickets, whether they are coaches’ family, student family or visitors’ family,” Wolfgram said.

The district will set aside eight tickets for each school for administrators and school board members.

“Typically, we give visiting football teams the east bleachers,” athletic director Dawn Millard said. “If would allow them to have equal bleacher space because we have to be fair, they would be allowed to sit where our home fans like to come and put their blankets at 7 o’clock in the morning on Friday. We do have parents that show up with their blankets and sometimes, they duct-tape them to the bleachers. They like to be right in front of the box because that blocks the wind or whatever and it is supposed to be pretty chilly.”

Signs will show fans where they will be able to sit, she said.

The game will also be livestreamed and Mishicot has volunteered to pay 50% of that cost, Wolfgram said.

The same plan would apply if the Wolves win and have the opportunity to host a Level 2 game on Thursday, Nov. 19.

The winner of the Manawa/Mishicot game will play the winner of the matchup between No. 1 Bonduel at No. 4 Oconto that day.

If Bonduel beats Oconto, the second-round game would be played in Bonduel. However, if Oconto defeats Bonduel and Manawa beats Mishicot, the game between Manawa and Oconto would be played in Manawa.

“Oconto would have to beat Bonduel in order for us to host another game,” Millard said. “If Bonduel would beat Oconto, we would play Bonduel, but Bonduel would host.”
