Wallenfang, Marion Dorothy Flunker

Marion Dorothy Flunker Wallenfang passed away on October 25, 2020 on her mother’s birthday due to lung cancer.

Marion was born January 8, 1928 to Walter and Gertrude (Gast) Flunker on a farm south of Medina, WI. She was the oldest of five. Graduate of Washington High School class of ’45 in New London, Marion married Clyde Wallenfang on May 14, 1949. She worked at Zwicker Knitting Mill until 1952. Clyde was stationed with the Army in Alaska. Upon returning home, they lived and helped on Clyde’s Uncle Walter Sommers farm west of Dale. Clyde and Marion then purchased their own homestead on the County Line and farmed there for twelve years before moving to Dale, WI. After moving to town, Marion worked at a variety of shops and offices: HC Prange’s Lamp and Gift Dept., Service Motors Co., New London State Farm Insurance for Everett Collins and then later for Karen Gething. Marion earned her license in all four-insurance areas: life, health, auto, and property. Working until 1999, Marion and Clyde retired and moved to their cottage in Three Lakes. Married for fifty-two years, Clyde passed on August 26, 2001. Marion then worked for Oneida County Aging and Disability at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes before moving back to New London in 2006, working then at the New London Senior Center and the Food Pantry. Marion found time to do leader volunteer work for the Campfire Girls and the Dale and Medina 4-H Clubs. She was also involved with the activities at Zion UCC in Dale doing Sunday school 19 years, Christian Guild, church council, and church treasurer. Her hobbies were sewing, cross stitch, playing cards, computer, and bingo at the Senior Center. Marion was an avid genealogist, tracing Flunker/Gast family history to 1791 (Germany) and Wallenfang/Leiby family history to 1783 (Prussia). She enjoyed one trip in 1972 when the Case Company sent them to Martinique, her first plane ride.

Marion is survived by her daughters: Rev. Jean Wallenfang, Walworth, WI; Pamela Wallenfang, Madison, WI; Karen and Larry Laedtke, New London, WI; two grandsons and their wives, Kyle (Amanda) Laedtke, Oshkosh, WI; Neal (Lyra) Laedtke, Carlisle, IA; three great-granddaughters: Paige and Claire (Kyle), Lena (Neal) and a great-grandson, Lane (Neal); her sisters, Evelyn Rupple, Appleton, WI; Audrey Korth, Oshkosh, WI; her brothers, Donald (Marlene) Flunker, Appleton, WI; Richard (Barbara) Flunker, McKinney, TX; brother-in-law Nolan (Lettie) Wallenfang, Green Lake, WI, and many nieces and nephews.
