Parade, holiday lights

Weyauwega celebrates Christmas

Weyauwega’s annual Christmas parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, on Mill Street.

This year’s parade route will be longer than those of previous years.

The parade will begin by Agropur and head south on Mill Street.

It will go over the bridge and turn left on East Main Street.

Those who attend the parade should space themselves out along the parade route.

People who do not stay in their vehicles to watch the parade are being asked to wear masks and stay as physically distanced as possible.

There will not be a storefront Santa in a vacant building after the parade.

Way Forward Wega planned to do that, but is no longer doing so because the organization did not want a large group of people gathering on the street for it.

Santa Claus will be in the parade, though.

After the parade, the Weyauwega Winter Wonderland will debut.

Holiday light show

The holiday light show will take place from 5-10 p.m. every weekend during December, as well as during the first weekend of January.

Every building on the 100 block of East Main Street will be connected to it.

In addition, businesses and homes on Mill Street that are part of the parade route will have lights and decorations.

Those who drive down Main Street to see the light show may tune to 107.7 FM to listen to music synchronized to the lights.

The event is being supported by Way Forward Wega, the city and volunteers from local businesses and throughout the community.

Way Forward Wega is a local organization that formed this year to bring more people and events to the community’s downtown.

In addition, the Weyauwega Police Department and Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office will sponsor the fourth annual Handcuff Hunger from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.

Those who drive down East Main Street to see the lights that night are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and monetary donations.

Officers will remove the donations.

This year, the food donations will again be divided between Weymont Food Pantry and the Weyauwega-Fremont School District.

Monetary donations will be divided among the pantry, school district, police department and sheriff’s office.

Donations given to the police department will support its drone program.

Funds going to the sheriff’s office will support its K-9 program.
