Jaworski heading to Minnesota

Iola-Scandy senior to play baseball

Marcus Jaworski is taking his baseball skills to the Gopher State.

The Iola-Scandinavia High School senior recently signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

The Mustangs are a Division II program that competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

“I love the coaching staff,” Jaworski said. “Coach (Paul) Blanchard has a lot of experience and he knows what he’s doing. I loved the campus and it felt like home.”

He also talked to baseball recruiters from other schools, including the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Bryant and Stratton College.

Jaworski played two seasons at Iola-Scandinavia under former coach Pete Timdal and played with former Thunderbird Connor Kurki, now playing baseball at Coastal Carolina University in South Carolina.

“Pete prepared me a lot, but I’d also like to say thanks to Connor Kurki,” he said. “He took me under his wing and we did a lot of hours just working out together.”

Jaworski admitted he was surprised by the Mustangs’ scholarship offer.

“I’m very blessed to have them reach out,” he said. “We’ll see where it goes.”

Jaworski missed out on his junior season earlier this year because of COVID-19 and hopes to wrap up his high school career next spring with the Thunderbirds before heading to college.

“It’s going to affect us as far as playing,” he said. “It’s going to set us back, so we’re going to have to hit the weight room and get stronger and faster. It’ll all be good.”
