Moder, Genevieve “Gen”

Genevieve “Gen” Moder, age 86, of Town of Bear Creek, Waupaca County, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at her home.

The former Genevieve Joanna Monty was born on September 18, 1934 in Bear Creek to Earl and Irene (Young) Monty. She attended Bear Creek High School and at a young age sang in the choir and played the saxophone. Gen was united in marriage on December 24, 1952 to John L. Moder in Dubuque, Iowa. She worked at Fox Knitting in Appleton from 1952-1970. Gen and John dairy farmed in the Town of Bear Creek from 1970-1982. She liked taking care of the cows and helped with feeding and milking. In 1976 she started working at Hillshire Farms in New London, and after 38 years retired in 2014. Her husband of 67 years preceded her in death on June 20, 2020. Gen was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek. She always enjoyed music, whether she was dancing, singing, or even yodeling. Her other interests included cooking and winning at the casino on the slot machines. Gen loved spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered most as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother.

Survivors include two children, Bret (Jackie) Moder and Shelly (Kenneth) Stern. There are 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. There are five siblings: Gail Griffin, Karen Young, Gary (Rose) Monty, Paula Postel, and Kevin (Kathy) Monty. She is further survived by a brother-in-law, Duane (Joan) Moder; two sisters-in-law, Mickey Meyers and Marion Moder; and many other relatives and friends. Gen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; a daughter Wanda (Tom) Johnson; a son Bart Moder; and two granddaughters, Fawn Moder and Jennifer Hoier. She was further preceded by two sisters, Shirley (Donald) Southard and Jill Lockwood; two sisters-in-law, Mary Desmond and Dorothy (Bill) Cowden; and two brothers-in-law, John Young and Thomas Moder.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 12th at 12:00 noon at Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, with Fr. Timothy Shillcox, O. Praem officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date at St. Rose Cemetery, Clintonville.
