Any chance the New London girls’ basketball team had of pulling off a major upset didn’t last very long.

The Bulldogs hosted Notre Dame Dec. 7 for a nonconference game and ended up on the short end of a 74-17 final score.

Notre Dame’s Sammy Opichka scored her 1,000th point early in the game and once she reached the milestone, it was back to work for the senior, who ended up leading all scorers with 21 points.

The Tritons ended the first half with a 20-2 run to take a 41-8 halftime lead.

They then held the Bulldogs to nine points in the second half and led by as many as 59 points late in the game.

Paeton Kringel and Kenna Mix led the Bulldogs with four points each.

New London will resume Bay Conference play Friday, Dec. 11, at Menasha before traveling to Clintonville Monday, Dec. 14, to face the Truckers.
