Wins add up for T-Birds

Iola-Scandy girls improve to 4-0

Two big second halves led to a pair of wins for the Iola-Scandinavia girls’ basketball team.

A 15-0 run helped the Thunderbirds turn a one-point lead into a 16-point advantage Dec. 10 in a 73-61 win over Wild Rose. They also outscored Menominee Indian 33-19 in the second half Dec. 8 in a 57-37 win over the Eagles in the Central Wisconsin Conference-East opener.

Wild Rose took a 29-28 win into the locker room at halftime before the T-Birds scored 45 points in the second half.

The lead changed hands five times in the second half before Torrance Marquez’s basket cut Iola-Scandinavia’s lead to 54-53.

The T-Birds then went on to score the next 15 points and Wild Rose never got any closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Emilie Briquelet scored 15 of her team-high 21 points in the second half for the T-Birds, while Lillian Fuhs and Jaelyn Sivertson added 18 and 17, respectively.

Laney Havlovitz led Wild Rose with 21 points.

I-S 57, Menominee Indian 37

Briquelet, Sivertson and Fuhs teamed up to score 49 of the T-Birds’ 57 points against the Eagles.

Iola-Scandinavia led 24-18 at halftime.

Briquelet led all scorers with 18 points, while Sivertson added 16 and Fuhs finished with 16.

The T-Birds improved to 4-0 with the wins and will head to Plainfield Tuesday, Dec. 15, to face Tri-County. They will return to CWC-East play Friday, Dec. 18, at Amherst.
