New London Scouts earn Eagle Rank

Gardner, Krake, Jones complete community projects

Three members of New London Boy Scout Troop 59 earned scouting’s highest rank.

Braedon Gardner, age 18, Brett Krake, 17, and Connor Jones, 15, have completed the requirements of the rank advancement work, earned a minimum of 21 merit badges and completed an Eagle leadership project.

All three were successful in their board of review on Nov. 15 and earned Eagle Scout rank.

Gardner

Gardner’s Eagle project was planning out and leading the construction of two raised garden boxes for the Washington Center’s senior residents.

He chose this project because the New London Washington Center had asked for flower beds. He decided to build the raised garden beds. Jordan Thompson, the activities director at St. Joseph’s Residence coordinated tghe project with him.

Wolfrath’s Nursery donated the gravel filler material.

Rice’s Greenhouse and Robert Glatczak dated flowers and soil.

Krake

Krake’s Eagle project benefited the students of Lincoln Elementary School.

He coordinated efforts to improve the playground area by painting a checker board and providing checker pieces, painting a football field and refreshing the paint of existing playground games. The sandbox sand was also refilled as part of his project.

Lincoln Elementary School, family, friends and fellow Scouts helped him complete his project.

Krake chose this project because he wanted to give back to his community and help the students have fun and safe playground games.

Jones

Jones’ Eagle project benefited the students of Sugar Bush Elementary School.

He raised funds and coordinated the construction of a gaga ball pit game.

He chose this project because he had first played gaga ball (a game similar to dodgeball inside an octagon-shaped arena) at scout camp and thought it was fun.

Jones also wanted to give back to his former elementary school.

New London Building Supply, New London Tractor Supply Store and the Sugar Bush Parent Teacher Organization made generous contributions to the project.

Festival Foods for allowing him to have a brat fry fundraiser at their store.

Of the seven BSA ranks from Scout to Eagle, there is a minimum total combined requirement of 18 hours of service.

This doesn’t include service hours given during the course of a scout’s Eagle project.

Gardner completed 92.5 hours of service, Krake completed 88 hours, and Jones completed 98 hours.

Adding their Eagle scout service projects: Gardner logged 182.75 hours, Krake logged 110.5 hours and Jones logged 127 hours.
