Free throws down the stretch turned out to be the difference in the Waupaca girls’ basketball team’s latest home win.
Finley Charapata connected on all six of her free throws in the final minute as the Comets held on for a 53-49 win over Oconto Falls Jan. 5 at Waupaca High School.

The Comets responded by scoring 10 of the final 12 points of the half to take a 32-29 lead at the break.
Waupaca never trailed in the second half and led by nine points at one point before the Panthers closed the gap with a 7-0 run that cut Waupaca’s lead to 49-47 with 16 seconds remaining.
Charapata’s late free throws kept Waupaca’s lead at four points. She ended up leading Waupaca with 18 points, while Seattle Lettau also finished in double figures with 10.
