Crain, Marie Agnes

Marie Agnes Crain, age 96 of New London, passed away at St. Joseph Residence on Thursday, January 7, 2021.

Marie was born on February 10, 1924 in Saskatchewan, Canada to the late Andrew and Alice (Rohan) Doud. Marie’s mother passed away when she was an infant, so along with her father, her aunt Mary Doud “Ma” helped raise Marie. Marie was united in marriage to Don Crain on October 4, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Town of Lebanon. He preceded her in death in 2019. Together they celebrated 71 years of marriage in 2018. She worked at Farmer’s State Bank in Manawa for 39 years. Marie and Don served as town of Lebanon treasurer for 62 years. Marie was a poll worker for many elections. Don and Marie were the Irish Man and Irish Rose of the year in 1997. They were always in the bleachers watching their kids and grandkids play sports.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Mary (Arnie) Nienhaus and their children, Lisa (Joe) Webb and their children, Hannah and Hailey: Jeff (Molly) Nienhaus and their children, Maddy and Tanner: Pete (Shauna) Nienhaus and their children, Reilly and Audrey and Ben (Sarah) Nienhaus and their children, Grace, Troy and Grady: Betty (Paul) Steingraber and their children, Eric (Missy) Steingraber and their children, Cali and Colton and Amy (special friend Dean) and her children, Mckenzie, Emily and Kayla: Barb (Jim) St. Marie and their son, Michael (Alex) St. Marie and their son, Jace: Jean (Brian) Palmer and their children, David (Courtney) Palmer and their son Easton and Tracy Palmer: Marie’s sons, Jim (Sherry) Crain and their children, Jesse (Elizabeth) Crain and their son, Finn: Joe (Brittany) Crain and Andy (Kansas) Crain and their son, Clayton: Dave (Chris) Crain and their children, Taylor (special friend Michael) and Trevor (fiancée Katie): Tom (Dawn) Crain and their children, Jena (Bryan) Macpherson and their children, Lilly, Emellia and Luci and Karlee (Austyn) Walbruck all of New London and Jerry (Kevin) Crain from Atlanta: her lifelong special friend, Mary Fran Crain: a niece, Sue Johnston and a nephew, Tim Frost. Marie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sister-in-law, Pat (Harold) Emenecker; special friends, Ken and Nora Egan, along with many other friends and neighbors in Lebanon.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in the Town of Lebanon. A public visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Friday, January 15, 2021 and again from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Town of Lebanon. Marie’s funeral mass will be recorded and put on our website following the service.
