Olson, Ida

Ida Olson, age 96, of Iola, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

She was born on May 21, 1924 in Iola to the late Charles and Clara (Wendt) Hoppe. She married Marlyn Olson in Milwaukee. Ida loved crocheting baby outfits, sweaters and blankets and donated them to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola. Her sweater sets have been sent all over the world via World Relief. She also worked at the Crystal Cafe as a cook and enjoyed baking, cooking, and sharing her goodies with her family and friends. Ida was a musician and poet, writing many beautiful poems and spending countless hours playing her accordion and organ. She was a lover of animals and became friends with a variety of wildlife while living on the farm in the Town of Scandinavia.

Ida is survived by her son, Gary (Patti) Olson; daughter-in-law, Sue Wirth; grandchildren: Wendy Olson, Heather Riehl, Nikki Dunham, Benjamin Olson, Lindsay Olson-Mack, Heather Dain, Shala Calderon and Shari Doe, along with 25 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Fred (Dora) Hoppe, and sister, Trudy Sloan along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlyn E Olson; son, George Olson; sisters: Margaret, Virginia, Eleanor and infant sister Bertha; and brothers: Charles, Arthur, infant brother Walter and brother-in-law, Richard “Dicky” Olson.

A memorial service and celebration of Ida’s life will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Iola. Voie Funeral Home of Iola is assisting the family with arrangements.
