Hortonville moving up a division

By Greg Seubert

Changes are in store for this year’s WIAA state boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments.

The WIAA, which oversees high school athletics in Wisconsin, has released revised placements and assignments for the tournaments, which are scheduled to get underway in February.

According to the WIAA, the revisions are in response to the number of programs that have declared they will not participate in the tournament series this season.

The girls’ tournament will begin with regional games in five divisions on Tuesday, Feb. 9, with the state tournament set for Thursday to Saturday, Feb. 25-27.

Regional games for the boys will start Tuesday, Feb. 16, with the state tournament scheduled for Thursday to Saturday, March 4-6.

Revised assignments for area teams are:

Boys

Division 1: Hortonville will move from Division 2 to Division 1. The Polar Bears are in a bracket with Appleton North, D.C. Everest, Stevens Point and Wausau West.

Division 2: Waupaca and New London will remain in Division 2 and are in a bracket with Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Notre Dame Academy and Ashwaubenon. Also, Clintonville will move from Division 3 to Division 2 and are in a bracket with Antigo, Marinette, Shawano, Green Bay West and Seymour.
