CWC-North race heats up

It looks like the race for a Central Wisconsin Conference-North girls’ basketball championship will go down to the wire.

Gresham handed Manawa its first CWC-North loss Jan. 21 by handing the Wolves a 54-45 defeat.
Manawa fell to 4-1 in the CWC-North Standings, while the Wildcats improved to 3-1 and are tied with Northland Lutheran for second place.

Manawa is scheduled to play both teams later this season.

Jessa Jensen’s three-point play at the end of the first half gave Gresham a 27-21 lead at the break.

The Wildcats eventually built a nine-point lead. Mikenna Wegener’s basket cut their lead to 44-39 with 3:20 remaining in the game, but Manawa never got any closer the rest of the way.

Kaitlyn Miller led Manawa with 14 points. Valarie and Hannah Cerveny led Gresham with 14 points.
