Style to judge Mid-Winter Art Show

New London event slated for Feb. 13-14

Professor emeritus Christine Style will judge the Wolf River Art League’s 51st annual Mid-Winter Art Show.

The art show takes place Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 13 and 14 at Crystal Falls Banquet Facility, 1500 Handschke Drive. The show is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, with free admission.

Cash and ribbon prizes are awarded. With Covid-19 concerns being addressed at this show, Style will critique winning pieces in writing, to be shared with artists. There is no Saturday morning judge’s critique.

Style taught printmaking, drawing and 2D design at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for 31 years. Her master of fine arts in printmaking is from UW-Milwaukee and her bachelor’s degree in art is from UW-Madison.

She served on the State Board for Wisconsin Visual Artists for more than 20 years, was president and is part of the Northeast Chapter of WVA. She served as Wisconsin Artists Biennial chair or co-chair in 2018, 2016, 2014, and 2009.

She is also a member of Print Forum, a support group with the Milwaukee Art Museum and currently serves on the board.

Style will be teaching a Screen Printing Workshop at the Peninsula Art School in Fish Creek in September 2021.

While teaching printmaking, Style led the UW-GB travel course ‘Arts Italy: Studio Art Intensive’ 11 times, and continues to enjoy this international relationship with Florence, Italy after retirement.

Style exhibits work regionally, nationally and internationally. She has a printmaking studio in Green Bay. Go to www.christine style.com to learn more about her.

Members of the Wolf River Art League extend an open invitation to the public to attend the show, featuring professional, non-professional, and student artists who create media such as, but not limited to oil, acrylic, pastel, photography, fiber, ceramic and wood.

Budding artists from kindergarten to fifth grade have their own section of the show.

This year the show is designed to allow for social distancing while still enjoying art. What typically appears with the show is scaled down. There are works to view and to purchase, created by artists within the area.

A portion of the show is dedicated to the Start Art Mural Project. Visitors will see sketches and renderings of over 20 murals planned for New London in 2021.

Crystal Falls is located off U.S. Highway 45 near the State Highway 54 interchange. There will be drive-up access to the building, live piano music throughout the show, an art scholarship fundraising prize table, and a hot food menu and bar.

Wolf River Art League members appreciate the arts, provide art opportunities in the community, enjoy mentoring, and provide yearly student art scholarships. Each year several students win half scholarships from the art league to attend UW-Green Bay Summer Art Camp.
