Iola-Scandinavia tuned up for the WIAA state girls’ basketball tournament with three straight Central Wisconsin Conference-East wins.

The Thunderbirds wrapped up the regular season Feb. 6 with a 59-21 win over Weyauwega-Fremont. The team also handed Amherst a 54-50 loss Feb. 5 and defeated Shiocton 50-40 Feb. 2.

It didn’t take Jaelyn Sivertson long to make her presence known, as she scored the game’s first eight points and finished with a game-high 21.

The T-Birds headed to the locker room at halftime with a 36-15 lead before holding the home team to six points in the second half.

Two other players finished in double figures for the T-Birds, as Emilie Briquelet scored 13 points and Lillian Fuhs added 10.

I-S 54, Amherst 50

The T-Birds outscored the Falcons by two points in each half.

Iola-Scandinavia led 25-23 at halftime and had a 29-27 advantage in the second half.

Sivertson and Fuhs led the T-Birds with 16 and 12 points, respectively, while Amherst’s Brooke Wideman led all scorers with 19.

I-S 50, Shiocton 40

Iola-Scandinavia led 24-13 at halftime, but the deficit was too big for the Chiefs to overcome.

Sivertson and Briquelet led the T-Birds with 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Kendal Stingle led Shiocton with 12.

The T-Birds opened state tournament play Feb. 9 with a Division 4 home game against Pittsville. The winner of that game will play at Rosholt at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12.
