Chick Night goes virtual
Interactive women’s event live from Danes Hall
Waupaca’s Chick Night will be back this year as an interactive, virtual women’s event celebrating the ways Waupaca women hold each other up.
Sponsored by the Waupaca Community Arts Board (WCAB), it will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, on Facebook Live.
The live music, comedy and poetry performances will come to Facebook Live from Danes Hall of Waupaca.
Jazz singer Erin Krebs and Green Bay’s Tae will be the headliners.
Tae, whose works lean into rhythm and blues, soul and pop-rock, will start off the night.
She will warm it up for Krebs, who ranges from sultry jazz stylings to bebop scat, to belting out the blues.
“We are so thrilled to be able to bring Chick Night back during this pandemic,” said WCAB President Marci Reynolds. “It’s so important for Waupaca women to come together to rejoice in each other, laugh together and remember that we are always stronger together.”
Chick Night will also feature musical performances by Pamela Gusmer, the duo Rebecca Baseman and Chris Kokesh, the duo Chainsaw Barbie, Dhara Martin, comedy by Barb Laedtke and Kay Ellingson, poetry by La Donna Larson, and also storytelling through the Waupaca Storytelling Project.
Throughout the night, virtual audience members will learn belly dance moves from Susan Talerico, and create a macrame project along with Delaney Schroeder.
At the end of the night, those belly dance moves will come together in a group dance, followed by a virtual sing-along.
To participate, pick up the Chick Night Goodie Bag at the Bookcellar, beginning on Monday, Feb. 22.
The packet will include songbooks, macrame supplies, a program and other goodies audience members will need to join Chick Night.
In the spirit of women helping women, WCAB is collecting donations for The Mission of Hope House through its website.
