Ride for Heroes planned

Event scheduled at Iola Car Show Grounds

By Holly Neumann

Registration is now taking place for the Ride for Heroes, which will take place Sept. 10-12 in Iola.

“A few of us have been talking about utilizing the Iola Car Show grounds as a hosting spot for an organized trail ride,” said Char Shulfer, who is helping organize the event. “Since covid has ravaged our social events, I feel this will bring in surrounding patrons due to the fact this will be the first equine-related event from the car show grounds.”

There are currently 13 miles of trails.

“More are being added,” Shulfer said. “We are looking at four hours of riding at this time.”

All rides will begin and end at the Iola Car Show campground.

“We are lucky to have been granted permission to utilize such a wonderful facility,” Shulfer said.

There will be entertainment and dinners Friday and Saturday nights. Camping will also be available. A 40-by-100-foot site will cost $40 and a 30-by-60-foot site is $35.

There will also be a $5 charge per horse. Day riders are also welcome.

A negative Coggins Test is required, as well as a copy of a 30-day health certificate for anyone visiting from out of state.

Ride for Heroes is also looking for vendors for the event.

Vendors are expected to be open for sales from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11; and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 12.

Interested parties can visit the Ride for Heroes Facebook page or call or send a text to 920-538-6365.

“We can assist you in choosing your sites and making sure they’re reserved to your liking,” Shulfer said.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to local fire and EMS services and. The event will also bring attention to Tunnels to Towers and local military groups.

“We’re in hopes that this ride will be a part of our patrons’ calendars for years to come,” Shulfer said.
