Two women in jail

Both face narcotics, fleeing charges

Stephanie A. Jones, 40, Clintonville is charged with felony possession of narcotics, felony fleeing an officer and felony bail jumping.

Kari J. Wilson, 42, Appleton, is charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and felony fleeing an officer.

On Monday, Feb. 8, Waupaca County Deputy Sara Besel was parked near the intersection of South Pearl and East Martin streets in New London, monitoring a vehicle that belonged to Wilson.

The state Department of Corrections had issued a warrant for Wilson’s arrest for a parole violation.

Besel observed two people enter the vehicle. She then followed the vehicle from Pearl to Oak Street.

According to the criminal complaint, the vehicle did not stop after Besel activated her emergency lights and siren.

After the vehicle turned south on Mill Street, it accelerated to 57 mph in a 35 mph speed zone.

“Just south of the intersection with Beckert Street, I observed the person seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle suddenly lunge up and over the seat back to reach behind the driver’s seat. At the same time as the passenger made their movement, the driver swerved towards the center line of the roadway and struck some ice on the roadway,” the complaint says.

“The vehicle then swerved abruptly across the lane and onto the west shoulder. The vehicle then swerved back across the lane and struck the median divider between the northbound and southbound lanes. The vehicle spun approximately 270 degrees and ended up in the median area facing to the southwest. Without the vehicle coming to a complete stop, the operator regained control and turned to continue traveling southbound on Mill Street approaching the intersection with Highway 45,” the complaint says.

Besel then terminated the pursuit, after notifying Outagamie County and New London law enforcement.

Feb. 10 arrest

On Feb. 10, Waupaca County Deputy Justin Malueg stopped a vehicle because its rear license plate was completely covered in snow.

Wilson was identified as the driver, and Jones was the passenger.

Officers transported Wilson and Jones to jail.

Wilson reportedly told Malueg that Jones was the driver during the Feb. 8 pursuit.

According to the criminal complaint, Wilson said Jones would not stop and let her exit the vehicle.

She also accused Jones of being suicidal and wanting to crash the vehicle and kill them both.

Jones was later transported to the hospital for medical clearance after she admitted to swallowing a small amount of meth, the complaint says.

She told Malueg she had been “kidnapping” Wilson and would not allow her to leave the car.

An anomoly had been detected when jail staff scanned Jones.

Malueg told Jones she would face felony charges if she brought meth into the jail.

Jones later went into a bathroom with a nurse and removed a small plastic bag with meth from a body cavity.

Jones is currently in custody on a $2,000 cash bond.

Wilson remains in custody on a $3,000 cash bond.
