Schultz, Norma

Norma Esther Schultz, 95, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on February 26, 2021.

Born to Alfred C. and Edna M. (Boushley) Wanty on April 9, 1925, Norma was one of 13 children. Survivors include sisters: Shirley (David) Strange of Appleton, WI, and Mary (Paul) Frazer of Bowie, MD. She was predeceased by sisters: Dorothy Peskie, Marge Pryse, and Phyllis Stiebs, and brothers: Twins Joseph and David, Leor “Bud,” Lloyd, Ray, Bill, and Dick Wanty.

Norma married Merle Elliott Schultz on June 28, 1947, and together they raised seven children: daughters Linda (Dr. Rex) Pope, Donna (Steve) Wagner, and Kathie (Ted) Smith; and sons Mike (Joan), Tom, Bill (Lee) and Dave (Jody). She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, sons Mike and Tom, and son-in-law Ted Smith.

Surviving Norma are her 14 grandchildren:  Nathaniel (Ashley) Pope, Bryanne Pope (Keith) Stille, Fritz (Elizabeth) Wagner, Greta (Nick) Ducat, Chad (Laurie) Smith, Alison Smith, Emily Schultz-Fellenz (David Fellenz), Elliot Schultz, Eliza (Adam) Pope, Max (Nina Cardinale) Schultz, Sierra West, Brooke (Jason) Mader, Andrew Schultz and Lauren Schultz.

Norma celebrated her 25 great grandchildren: Aubree and Bailynn Pope, Gavin and Trinity Stille, Finnegan, Patrick, and Evelyn Wagner, Payton, Camella and Mara Ducat, Thomas (Mellissa), Stephanie, Timmy, and Karissa Smith, Shelby, Bryana, Haylee and Payton Roe, Felix Fellenz, Mina and Orrin Pope, Delaney Schultz and Bailey Mader, Julian and Charlotte Schultz. great-great grandchildren: Colton Smith, and Miles and Karter Osman.  She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Norma lived every day to its fullest, saying, “I know everyone says we will go to a better place after we are gone, but I cannot imagine a better place than here.” Optimistic, energetic, independent, and tireless, family was everything to Norma—she was always there to support them however she could. While she was small in stature, her huge heart knew no limits.

A private family memorial service will be held on Norma’s 96th birthday.
