Star Dairy planning project

Weyauwega company to expand

Weyauwega Star Dairy is planning an expansion project that involves a new intake building on North Mary Street.

When the common council met last month, it approved the plan for for that new intake building.

The council also approved the plan to vacate the north half of Mary Street to Wisconsin Street.

This is contingent on the city replacing the sanitary sewer line and Star Dairy encasing it in steel.

It is also contingent on proper plans to deal with the storm runoff from Main Street to Mary Street.

City Administrator Jeremy Schroeder said the city will replace the sanitary line in that area, and Star Dairy will be responsible for encasing the sanitary and storm water in steel for extra protection to the infrastructure.

The council and Public Works Committee are in full support of the project, he said.

The city also wants to protect its infrastructure, noting if something happen down the road, there would be potential costs to Star Dairy for repairs of the infrastructure, Schroeder said.

However, with a new sanitary line and encasing both in steel the city is hopeful they will be protected, he said.

Schroeder said Star Dairy’s architect is “designing the structure to properly handle the surface water from rain, etc. which may include additional catch basins, and Star Dairy will handle snow removal in that immediate area.”
