Suspect charged with burglary, battery

Man accused of making forced entry into Waupaca home

Cammeron M. Collins, 30, Waupaca, is charged with burglary, felony strangulation, misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct and two counts of felony bail jumping.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Feb. 22, Waupaca Police Officers Daniel Wasrud and Brenden Muske responded to a battery complaint on 10th Street.

When they arrived, they found pieces of the door frame scattered on the ground and a man who had injuries on his face.

The victim initially seemed dazed and confused about what had happened.

He said Collins broke into his home and attacked him.

Because the victim’s ex-wife had health issues that required monitoring, video cameras were installed both inside and outside the house.

A camera facing the street shows a pickup truck stop and park near the house.

A man in a hood exits the truck and approaches the house.

Another exterior camera shows the man kick and shoulder the side door open, then enter the house.

According to the criminal complaint, the man is seen on video throwing punches at the victim, and then leaving.

Wasrud identified the suspect as Collins from prior police contacts with him.

Wasrud went to Collins address on the 700 block of Holbeck Street.

As he arrived, so did a pickup truck.

The driver of the truck said she had given Collins a ride to the house on 10th Street because he wanted to retrieve a pack of cigarettes.

She said Collins was out of breath when he returned to the truck.

He did not return home with her, but asked her to drop him off at Riverside Park.

At the time of the incident, Collins had two felony bonds on unresolved cases.

On Oct. 15, 2019, Collins was charged with possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of drug paraphernalia in the presence of a child, felony possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor child neglect.
