Matthew L. Schley, age 70 of the Township of Bear Creek, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at his home.
Matthew Lloyd Schley was born September 10, 1950 in New London, WI, son to the late John R. and Betty L. (List) Schley. He attended school in Clintonville and later graduated with the class of 1969. Matt was a farmer his entire life; it was in his blood. He grew up on the family farm which his great-grandfather Frederich Schley began; followed by his grandfather, Fred, and father, John. Matt followed in their footsteps and they certainly would be proud. He was united in marriage to Patricia Stoffel on November 28, 1981 in Bloomer, WI at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Matt never really retired, but passed the torch of the farm to his son, Benjamin and Rick Malueg. He filled in where needed and did “fixing” at his leisure. The lineage of the farm was celebrated at the Wisconsin State Fair during their Century Farm recognition. Matt could fix countless things and learned to do general repair from his father, a great skill to have as a farmer. In his spare time, he really loved to swim and actually took S.C.U.B.A. classes to be able to dive. Matt loved to read, enjoyed political discussions with folks, and liked to travel with family and friends. He loved to pester and spend time with his grandchildren. Matt will be remembered as a giving person who would help anyone. He kept the integrity of his name by the way he lived his life which was solidified over the years by the Schley farmers who came before him.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia; son, Benjamin (Calista) Schley, Clintonville; granddaughters, Lucille and Eva; sisters, Ann (Ken) Fuller, Menasha and Cynthia Schley, Clintonville; and a brother, Alan (Deb) Schley, Clintonville. Matthew was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Matt’s life will be held for friends and family from 1-4 PM, Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the American Legion Hall, Clintonville.
