Robert Edward Gilbert, age 92, of New London, WI, loving husband and father of four children, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center, Pigeon Falls, WI.
Robert was born December 13, 1928 in Crandon, the son of George and Kathleen (Mullins) Gilbert. He graduated high school and served in the U.S. Armed Force from 1950-52. On November 23, 1954 he married Joyce Elaine Rowe. Together they had three sons, Norman, Jeffrey and Robert Dale, and one daughter, Wava. Robert studied and became a graphic artist as well as a passionate painter. His love of nature combined with his talent allowed him to create extraordinary wildlife art. His paintings were much admired not only by friends and family, but by all who frequented the places where his paintings were displayed. He won numerous awards and prizes and donated many painting to various wildlife groups. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and kind and compassionate spirit.
He is survived by his daughter, Wava Jacobchick; son, Robert Dale Gilbert; sisters, Elsie Murray, Ilene Austin, Linda Ferzacca and brother, Clyde Gilbert. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joyce, brother, Chester, and two sons, Norman and Jeffery.
Services will be held at Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 with Rev. John Johnson officiating. Burial to follow at Crandon Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to time of service. Weber-Hill Funeral home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
