It didn’t take long for the Waupaca and Clintonville boys’ golf teams to see how they stack up against North Eastern Conference competition.

Waupaca opened its season April 26 at the Waupaca Country Club by hosting a meet that included the Comets, Truckers and the eight other North Eastern teams.

After the golfers turned in their scorecards, it appears that Marinette is the team to beat.

Ty Kretz’s medalist round of 69 helped the Marines win the meet with a score of 309. Fox Valley Lutheran and Wrightstown tied for second with a round of 353, followed by Luxemburg-Casco (357), Freedom (373), Clintonville (391), Oconto Falls (396), Waupaca (418), Little Chute (431) and Denmark (434).

Wolfgang Steuck led Clintonville with a 94, followed by Brayden Branstrom (97), Caedyn Higgins (98), Andy Lamia (102) and Alex Beilfuss (108).

Eli Bartel had the second-lowest round of the day with a 77 to lead Waupaca. Elliot Bartel shot a 90, followed by Ben Habighorst (121), Keegan Gabrielson (130) and Kyle Hotvedt (154).

Waupaca, Clintonville and seven other North Eastern teams will now head to one of Wisconsin’s top courses – Whistling Straits near Sheboygan – for their next meet. Golfers will tee off at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 29.
