New London Public Museum restores specimens

The New London Public Museum has returned 18 bird specimens to its exhibit.

These birds are part of the museum’s Save the Birds restoration program. Through this program, a total of 63 birds have been sponsored and 61 restored since it started in 2012.

With almost 200 birds in the collection, many of which are close to or more than 100 years old, the museum recognized that the birds needed conservation.

Appealing to the community, the museum hoped to have at least five birds sponsored every year. Bird sponsorships range from $75 to $200.

“There are still plenty of birds left that need help, so stop in today and save a bird,” according to a press release from the museum.

The New London Public Museum offers exhibits about local history, Native American culture and natural history.

Visitors can discover even more using the resources in the research center.

Located at 406 S. Pearl St., the museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday until Memorial Day. Admission is free. Visitiors are encouraged to wear masks.
