Comets off to a 2-0 start

A pair of wins over the defending North Eastern Conference champions has the Waupaca baseball team off to a 2-0 start this season.

Waupaca completed the sweep of the Tigers April 30 with a 6-1 win in the home opener. The Comets also handed Wrightstown an 8-2 loss April 27 in the season opener for both teams.

Waupaca 6, Wrightstown 1

Hagen Rasmussen held the Tigers to two hits over five innings for his first varsity win on the mound.

The Comets scored all six of their runs in the first three innings, including three in the first, two on the second and one in the third.

Wrightstown cut into the lead with a run in the top of the fourth.

Dutch Nickel and Vin Nikolai led Waupaca at the plate with two hits each, while Parker Krcmar drove in a pair of runs.

Luke Schwenn held the Tigers scoreless over the final two innings to pick up the save.

Waupaca 8, Wrightstown 2

A three-run third inning helped the Comets pick up the win on the Tigers’ home field.

Nikolai had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Schwenn, Alex Pankratz, Braeden Ryan and Tyler Rogney added an RBI.

Jayce Koshollek gave up three hits and a run over four innings to get the win.
