First track meet in Waupaca since 2019

Home track meets have returned to Waupaca High School.
The Comets hosted Manawa, New London and five other teams May 6 for the Vic-Tree Invitational, the team’s first home meet since 2019. The boys placed fourth, while the girls placed eighth.
Marathon won the boys’ competition with 167 points, followed by Winneconne (144), New London (116), Waupaca (90), Manawa (77), Pacelli (53), Rosholt (29) and Tri-County (3).
Team scores for the girls were Winneconne (191), Marathon (157.5), New London (102.5), Manawa (83), Tri-County (44), Pacelli (43), Rosholt (37) and Waupaca (18).
James Sternweis and Kyle Wisnewski won two boys’ events for Waupaca and New London, respectively.
Sternweis won the shot put and discus events with throws of 50 feet, 4 inches, and 137 feet, 1/2 inch, while Wisniewski turned in a time of 11.6 seconds to win the 100-meter dash and placed first in the high jump with a top leap of 5 feet, 8 inches.
The Manawa girls also had a pair of first-place finishes. Aspen Linjer won the 100 dash in 13.06 seconds, while Lexi Hedtke won the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches.
New London added two more firsts. Bre Hacker won the girls’ triple jump with a distance of 32 feet, 5 inches, and the boys’ 800-meter relay team of Garrison Gregory, Ian Oberstadt, Owen Schlueter and Luke Huestad turned in a time of 1:38.9.
Waupaca, Manawa and New London will also compete together Saturday, May 22, at the Waupaca County Meet. That meet, which also includes Iola-Scandinavia, Weyauwega-Fremont, Clintonville and Marion, will start at 9:30 a.m. at Weyauwega-Fremont High School.
