It’s been an up-and-down season so far for the Waupaca baseball team.

After opening the season with a pair of wins over defending North Eastern Conference champion Wrightstown, Denmark swept a doubleheader from the Comets May 8 and Waupaca also split a pair of NEC games with Clintonville.

The Comets headed to Denmark May 8 with a 3-1 record, but the Vikings picked up a pair of wins and improved to 8-0.

“The scores don’t technically reflect our play, but it is what it is,” coach Rocky Mondello said. “We made some great plays, had some plays that we wish we could have back.”

The Truckers held the Comets to three runs on Waupaca’s home field.

Clintonville’s JV1 team also returned home with a win, as the Truckers handed the Comets a 13-1 loss.

“It was a tough night all around,” Mondello said. “Pitching was good at each level, but we didn’t quite get the offense we were looking for.”

Waupaca outscored the Truckers May 4 at Olen Park in Clintonville.

Waupaca traveled to Little Chute May 11 and will host New London and Little Chute at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, May 13-14, respectively.
