T-Birds split CWC-East games

Iola-Scandinavia softball team now 6-2 on season

After starting the season with three straight wins, things have cooled down a bit for the Iola-Scandinavia softball team.

The Thunderbirds defeated Manawa 10-0 May 4, fell to Wittenberg-Birnamwood 15-11 May 6, handed Bonduel a 5-0 loss May 7 and won two of three games May 8 at a tournament in Plainfield.

The team now has a 2-1 record in Central Wisconsin Conference East Division games and is 6-2 overall.

Iola-Scandinavia 10, Manawa 0 (6 inn.)

The T-Birds scored four runs in the first inning never looked back in their annual matchup with the Wolves.

Katie Cherek had three hits for the T-Birds, while Jaelyn Sivertson and Ella Gullixon had two hits. Sivertson also had a triple in the fourth inning.

Brooklyn Zielke and Alaina Gast had Manawa’s two hits. Zielke had a triple in the first inning.

Julia Munoz went the distance to earn the win for the T-Birds. She gave up two hits, didn’t walk a batter and finished with seven strikeouts.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 15, Iola-Scandinavia 11

Iola-Scandinavia jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, but the Chargers scored the next 12 runs, including 10 runs in the third inning.

Marin Hoyord had four hits and drove in three runs for the T-Birds. Sivertson and Cherek added three hits and Clara Koles and Makayla Much had two. Sivertson and Much had a double.

Munoz pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed six hits and three walks. Maddie Much pitched the final 3 2/3 innings and gave up six hits and one walk while striking out four batters.

Iola-Scandinavia 5, Bonduel 0

Iola-Scandinavia got a strong pitching performance from freshman Maddie Much, who held the Bears scoreless while picking up the complete-game win. She allowed five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.

The T-Birds scored a run in the first inning and added four runs in the fifth. Koles and Cherek drove in a run in the inning.

Sivertson and Munoz each had two hits for the T-Birds. Sivertson had a triple and Munoz had a double. Hoyord also had an RBI double in the first inning.

Hoyord had four hits and three RBIs; Sivertson and Cherek each had three hits; and Koles and Makayla Much added two hits. Sivertson and Much each had a double.

Tri-County Invitational

The T-Birds defeated Wild Rose 18-4, fell to Hilbert/Stockbridge 6-4 and beat St. Thomas Aquinas Academy 16-1.
