Timm, Miskinis receive industry awards

Sara Timm and Greg Miskinis, with Waupaca Foundry, together received four industry awards for their advocacy of and service to the metalcasting industry.

The awards were presented virtually at the American Foundry Society’s annual Metalcasting Congress.

The industry event was streamed live online starting April 12 and concluded April 22.

Timm

Timm received two awards from the American Foundry Society (AFS).

Timm received the 2021 Outstanding Individual Service Award. The peer-nominated award recognizes Timm’s technical support and promotion of the Marketing Division.

Timm was also recognized for outstanding contribution and service to the industry and to the AFS Women in Metalcasting Division.

She has served two terms on the Women In Metalcasting committee, which is part of the national organization’s management council.

Timm served as secretary from 2018 to 2019, and currently serves as executive chair through 2021.

She has been employed by Waupaca Foundry since 2009 and was promoted to director of marketing and media in 2020.

Miskinis

Miskinis, retired director of research and process development for Waupaca Foundry, was recognized with the Outgoing Chair Award for his service, participation and dedication as chairman to the Technical Council at the American Foundry Society.

In that role from 2019 to 2021, he provided leadership for the technical divisions which include iron, aluminum, steel, copper, lost foam, melting, additive manufacturing, environmental health and safety, engineering, the research board.

Miskinis also presented the distinguished annual Hoyt Memorial Lecture at Metalcasting Congress 2021.

His presentation, “The Transformation of the Modern Foundry,” analyzed how shifts in the workforce, market pressures from global flattening, environmental health and safety factors have transformed the foundry industry.

“We are proud of our leaders’ contributions to the metalcasting industry,” said Waupaca Foundry CEO Mike Nikolai. “Sara is an example of the opportunities for professionals to progress the manufacturing industry beyond operational excellence. And Greg has dedicated his career to advances in research and innovation in foundry operations, as well as mentoring the next generation of foundrymen.”

Miskinis began working at Waupaca Foundry in 1989 and was promoted to director of research and process development in 2008.
He retired in 2020 with 31 years of leadership and service to Waupaca Foundry.
