Strehlow to wrestle at Luther

Weyauwega-Fremont wrestler placed third at state

All Ben Strehlow wants to do is wrestle.

The Weyauwega-Fremont High School senior will get that opportunity at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

Family, friends, coaches and teammates showed up May 10 in the school’s Performing Arts Center as Strehlow signed his National Letter of Intent to compete for the Norse, an NCAA Division III program.

“He’s a true success story, somebody that truly outworked everybody else,” Weyauwega-Fremont wrestling coach Tim Potratz said. “He put in the time. He loves to wrestle and loves to do the work. We love to be around people like that.”

Strehlow posted a 5-18 record as a freshman, but improved over the next three seasons and ended up with a career mark of 93-46.

He qualified for state as a junior and senior. He placed sixth in Division 3 at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Meet in Madison last year and wrapped up his senior season in March by placing third at the Division 3 state individual meet at Wausau East High School.

“Nobody deserves it more,” Potratz said. “I think he’s going to be really successful.”
