Chain Skiers to hit the road

Performances planned on Bear, Weyauwega lakes

By Holly Neumann

The Waupaca Chain Skiers will have a different look this season, with performances taking place at three different locations in Waupaca County.

“Due to the impact that COVID-19 had on the (Wisconsin) Veterans Home, they have asked that we do not perform shows at that location for this summer,” said Cassandra Moloney, secretary for the Waupaca-based Chain Skiers organization. “Their wish to minimize the possibility of COVID-19 entering and spreading through the campus caused our team to look at other show site options for the 2021 season.”

According to Moloney, Bear Lake near Manawa will now be their most consistent site for performances.

“We are hoping to perform a show on Weyauwega Lake July 11 and two exhibition-style shows on Rainbow Lake to be viewable by water only,” she said.

Due to the adaptations they have had to make, the shows will be different than in the past, but still consist of multiple facets.

“Skiers will be climbing on shoulders to build pyramids, others gliding across the water on just their bare feet, girls spinning on top of just one ski and so much more,” Moloney said. “We are still determined to put on an exciting show for our spectators.”

The shows will continue to be free to the public.

“At Bear Lake Resort, public access will be on the lake side of their bar and grill at the beach,”

Moloney said. “For our Weyauwega show, spectators will be able to watch from their new park across from the boat landing and the Waupaca shows will be viewable by boats in the water, as we do not have access to land space for spectators.”
