Golfers compete at conference meets

Area golfers wrapped up the regular season with conference meets.

Waupaca’s Foxfire Golf Club hosted Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa, Weyauwega-Fremont and nine other teams the final leg of the Central Wisconsin Conference meet May 25; Clintonville and Waupaca headed to Brown County Golf Course in Hobart May 25 for the North Eastern Conference meet; New London competed May 25 in the Bay Conference meet at Wander Springs Golf Course in Greenleaf; and Hortonville competed May 27 in the Fox Valley Association meet at Chaska Golf Course in Greenville.

CWC

Wittenberg-Birnamwood won its first CWC boys’ golf championship by winning the final leg of the CWC meet.

The Chargers placed first with a round of 325, followed by Wisconsin Valley Lutheran (347); Manawa (364); Bonduel (378); Pacelli (379); Amherst (394); Iola-Scandinavia and Port Edwards (425); Marion (451); Menominee Indian/Gresham (473); Weyauwega-Fremont (491); Shiocton (incomplete team).

Wittenberg also placed first in the overall standings, followed by Manawa, Wisconsin Valley Lutheran, Bonduel and Pacelli.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Ian Resch turned in the lowest round with a 77.

Manawa’s Peyton Schuelke placed sixth overall with an 82, while other scores for the Wolves included Mason Wiesner and Colin Moser (92); Andrew Elmhorst (98); and Ben Stern (106).

Iola-Scandinavia scores included Brandon Phillips (97), Riley Gambsky (98), Jayden Singh (114) and Maddie Kirmse (116).

Calvin Loughrin led Weyauwega-Fremont with a 110. Other scores for the Warhawks included Braedon McIvor (117); and Zacx Brunk and Ayden Loughrin (132).

North Eastern

Marinette wrapped up the conference title with a 319, followed by Freedom (340); Luxemburg-Casco (349); Fox Valley Lutheran (354); Oconto Falls and Wrightstown (355); Clintonville (390); Little Chute (394); Denmark (400); and Waupaca (423).

Marinette also won the overall championship with 70 points, followed by Fox Valley Lutheran (56.5), Wrightstown (52.5), Luxemburg-Casco (50), Freedom (49), Oconto Falls (36), Clintonville (26.5), Little Chute (17), Waupaca (16.5) and Denmark (11).

The Marines also had the medalist golfer in Ty Kretz, who shot a 75.

Clintonville’s scores included Brayden Branstrom (92), Wolfgang Stueck (96), Alex Beilfuss (100), Caedyn Higgins (102), Jacob Malesa (109).

Waupaca’s scores included Eli Bartel (87), Elliot Bartel (89), Kyle Hotvedt (122), Ben Habighorst (125), Keegan Gabrielson (133).

Bay

New London placed fourth at the Bay Conference meet at Wander Springs Golf Course.

West De Pere placed first with a 332 and also had the medalist golfer, as Mason Haupt shot a 77.

Other team scores were Xavier (342), Shawano (356), New London (367) and Seymour (380).

Ben Porath led New London with an 87, followed by Chasen Pfefferle (92), Jonah Schlueter (93), Will Grable (95) and Drew Freeman (99).

West De Pere also won the overall championship with 71 points, followed by Xavier (68), Shawano (51), Seymour (26) and New London (24).

FVA

Hortonville placed fifth out of nine teams at the FVA meet at Chaska Golf Course.

Appleton North win the meet with a round of 327, followed by Kaukauna (346), Appleton West (348), Fond du Lac (349), Hortonville (358), Kimberly (360), Neenah (364), Appleton East (369), Oshkosh West (385) and Oshkosh North (396).

Appleton North also won the overall conference championship with 18 points, followed by Kaukauna (15); Appleton West (14); Fond du Lac (12); Hortonville and Neenah (8); Kimberly (7); Appleton East (5); Oshkosh West (3); and Oshkosh North (0).

WIAA tournament

The WIAA state tournament will open Tuesday and Wedneday, June 1-2, with regionals in three divisions.

Hortonville will join Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, De Pere, Kaukauna, Kimberly and West De Pere June 1 for a Division 1 regional at Ledgeview Golf Course in De Pere. Sectional qualifiers will then head to the Notre Dame Academy Sectional, set for Wednesday, June 9, at Thornberry Creek at Oneida in Oneida.

Clintonville and Waupaca will compete with Amherst, Marinette, Menominee Indian/Gresham, Mosinee, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, Seymour and Wittenberg-Birnamwood June 1 at a Division 2 regional at Clintonville’s Riverside Golf Course. New London will also compete that day at another Division 2 regional at Hilly Haven Golf Course in De Pere with Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Luxemburg-Casco, Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Wrightstown and Xavier. Sectional qualifiers from both regionals will then head to Waushara County Club in Wautoma for the Wautoma Sectional, set for June 8 or June 9.

Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa and Weyauwega-Fremont will join Colby, Marathon, Newman Catholic, Owen-Withee, Pacelli, Thorp and Wisconsin Valley Lutheran June 1 at a Division 3 regional at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon. Sectional qualifiers will head to Hunter’s Glen Golf Club in Crivitz for the Crivitz Sectional.

The state meet is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, June 14-15, in Wisconsin Dells. Division 1 golfers will compete at Wild Rock Golf Club, while divisions 2 and 3 will head to Trappers Turn Golf Club.
