‘Steel Magnolias’ opens June 3

Live theater returns to New London

After over a year of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wolf River Theatrical Troupe in New London will stage its first live entertainment event since February 2020.

The Troupe presents “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, June 3-5, and at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 10-11, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12.

“Steel Magnolias” is a story about the bond that a group of colorful women share in a small-town Louisiana beauty shop and how they cope with life and death.

Directed by Molly Brown, the play features local cast members Anne Caylor, Kay Ellingson, Deb Ostrander, Brooklyn Billington, Lindsey Uvaas and Dorie Attoe.

Wolf River Theatrical Troupe member Margie Brown said, “The Troupe is excited to be opening up for a season of live entertainment after the long COVID closures.”

She said attendees may choose whether or not to wear a mask.

“We think you should do what makes you feel comfortable,” said Brown.

The theater, located at 304 St. John’s Place is air conditioned and has wheelchair accessibility.
