Raising funds for bike trail in Waupaca County

The Greater Waupaca Area Parks and Trails (GWAPT) group is hosting bike rides to raise funds for a new bike trail.

Scott Rusch led riders along the new trail, which extends through Farmington, Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence, Waupaca and Scandinavia on May 2.

A summer bike ride is slated for Saturday, June 12.

The ride will begin at 9 a.m. at Rotary Park in Waupaca. A second, shorter ride will leave from Ogdensburg at 10 a.m.

Cyclists starting in Ogdensburg will begin at the Tomorrow River Trail parking area on Spring Street and County Trunk E.

GWAPT would like to introduce riders of all ability levels, especially families, to the area trails, said Jane Haasch, GWAPT chair.

The ride in June will be focused on beginner and intermediate riders, with longer routes available for advanced riders, she said. Riders can sign up in advance at the GWAPT website: https://commonrootsrising.org/gwapt/ or in person the day of the ride.

There is a $5 suggested donation per person, or $10 for families.

Donations are still being accepted for the new bike trail. Community First Credit Union and other local businesses have lent their support to the fundraising efforts.

Donations can be made on the GWAPT website or by sending a check to GWAPT c/o Rural Access to Justice, PO Box 126, Waupaca WI 54981. Checks can be made out to Waupaca County Natural Resource Fund, attention GWAPT.

GWAPT members include Eric Bailey, Fred Bailey, Sharon Beck, Mary Burke, Brian Feest, Robert Forseth, Jane and Mark Morrow, Scott Rusch, Mark Saunders, Bob Van Epps and Kayla Van Dyke.
