Track athletes headed for sectionals

I-S, Manawa win team regional titles

The road to the WIAA State Track & Field Championships started off with a bang for two area teams.

Iola-Scandinavia and Manawa won boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively, June 14 at a Division 3 regional at St. Mary Catholic.

Individuals and relay teams needed to place in the top four of their respective regional meet to advance to sectional competition on Thursday, June 17.

Division 3

Iola-Scandinavia won the boys’ competition with 121 points, followed by St. Mary Catholic (105.5), Manawa (103), Shiocton (74), Valley Christian (71), Weyauwega-Fremont (70.5), Lourdes Academy (69) and Gresham/Bowler (32).

Manawa won the girls’ title with 138 points, followed by Shiocton (114), St. Mary Catholic (99), Weyauwega-Fremont (91), Lourdes Academy (55), Valley Christian (40), Gresham/Bowler (31), Tigerton (23), Iola-Scandinavia (17) and Marion (7).

Firsts for Iola-Scandinavia went to Parker Prahl (boys’ triple jump, long jump); Brye Hardel (boys’ shot put); and Charlie Vater (boys’ 3,200-meter run).

Manawa’s first-place finishers included Lexi Hedtke (girls’ high jump, long jump, triple jump); Aspen Linjer (girls’ 100-meter dash); the boys’ 800-meter relay team of Justin Buschke, Grant Bristol, Conner Scheid and Tanner Nienhaus; and the girls’ 3,200-meter relay team of Makenzie Jo Krueger, Jolie Jaeger, Amber Fietzer and Marilyn Klatt.

Weyauwega-Fremont’s firsts went to Abby Bartel (girls’ 1,600-meter run, 3,200-meter run); Muluken Rucks (boys’ pole vault); and the boys’ 400-meter relay team of Rucks, Hayden Orr, Max Meyerhofer and Sam Mason.

Iola-Scandinavia’s other sectional qualifiers are Ian Koss (boys’ triple jump, long jump, 400-meter dash); Brock Wester (boys’ triple jump, 800-meter run); Prahl (boys’ 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash); Dylan Donovan (boys’ 1,600-meter run); Briar Williams (girls’ 400-meter dash); Hardel (boys’ discus); Nevaeh Brown (girls’ discus); the boys’ 1,600-meter relay team of Wester, Hardel, Robert Vater and Charlie Vater; and the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team of Wester, Donovan, Charlie Vater and Robert Vater.

Manawa’s other sectional qualifiers are Andrew Elmhorst (boys’ discus and shot put); Klatt (girls’ 800-meter run, 1,600-meter run); Nathan Gorman (boys’ high jump); Kyle Kons (boys’ 100-meter hurdles); Grant Bristol (boys’ 300-meter hurdles); Linjer (girls’ 200-meter dash); Jaeger (girls’ 400-meter dash); Makenzie Jo Krueger (girls’ 3,200-meter run); Amber Fietzer (girls’ triple jump); Keither Jepson (boys’ 800-meter run); the boys’ 400-meter relay team of Buschke, Scheid, Nicholas Gorman and Nienhaus; the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team of Ricky Pingel, Jepson, Noah Bortle and Zach Schertz; the girls’ 400-meter relay team of Lizzy Bessette, Hedtke, Daisy Krueger and Linjer; the girls’ 800-meter relay team of Bessette, Rylee Kettleson, Ally Scheuermann and Daisy Krueger; and the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Bessette, Fietzer, Daisy Krueger and Jaeger.

Weyauwega-Fremont’s other sectional qualifiers are Carson Kester (boys’ 1,600-meter run); Isiah Schuh (boys’ pole vault); Mason (boys’ high jump); Lexie Toney (girls’ shot put); Olivia Sedlar (girls’ pole vault); Bethany Magdanz (girls’ 100-meter hurdles); Lauren Feltz (girls’ 300-meter hurdles); Emma Ziepke (girls’ 400-meter dash); Melanie Jentsch (girls’ 3,200-meter run); the boys’ 800-meter relay team of Rucks, Orr, Meyerhofer and Mason; the boys’ 1,600-meter relay team of Rucks, Josh Halat, Mason and Kester; the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team of Halat, Ethan Patzer, Clay Fee and Kester; the girls’ 400-meter relay team of Magdanz, Serenity Griffin, Kenzie Hansen and Sedlar; the girls’ 800-meter relay team of Magdanz, Madison Hansen, Morgan Hansen and Sedlar; and the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Ziepke, Madison Hansen, Jentsch and Bartel.

Sectional qualifiers will head to the Rosholt Sectional.

Division 2

Waupaca headed to Winneconne for a regional with teams from Amherst, Berlin, Fox Valley Lutheran, Omro, Wautoma, Westfield and Xavier.

The Waupaca boys placed seventh, while the girls finished ninth.

James Sternweis advanced to the Fox Valley Lutheran Sectional in Appleton by winning the boys’ shot put event and placing second in the discus toss.

Waupaca’s other qualifiers are Dawson Patzke (boys’ 300-meter hurdles); Ty Seefeldt (boys’ pole vault); Riley Wahler (boys’ 200-meter dash); Sam Petkovsek (boys’ 800-meter run); and the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team of Bryce Boldt, Brett Nimmer, Nathan Lemkuil and Petkovsek.

Also heading to the Fox Valley Lutheran Sectional are several athletes from Clintonville and New London after they placed in the top four at the Oconto Falls Regional.

New London’s and Clintonville’s boys’ teams placed third and seventh, while the New London and Clintonville girls finished fifth and sixth.

Firsts for New London went to Owen Schlueter (boys’ discus); Kyle Wisniewski (boys’ long jump); and Macy Reybrock (girls’ 800-meter run).

Clintonville’s only first-place finish came from Lauren Zwirschitz in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles.

New London’s other qualifiers are Wisniewski (boys’ triple jump, high jump); Sawyer Kohl (boys’ discus); Maddie Kloehn (girls’ long jump); Reybrock (girls’ 400-meter dash); Bre Hacker (girls’ triple jump); Ian Oberstadt (boys’ triple jump): Payton Ludick (boys’ long jump); Zeb Lehman (boys’ shot put); the boys’ 800-meter relay team of Matthew Lutz, Ludick, Schlueter and Garrison Gregory; the boys’ 1,600-meter relay team of Schlueter, Keegan Reybrock, Ludick and Lutz; the girls’ 800-meter relay team of Nadia Banaszynski, Olivia Dreas, Hacker and Rianna Schultz; and the girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Schultz, Kloehn, Anna Dreas and Reybrock.

Clintonville’s other qualifiers are Emily Taylor (girls’ 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles); Trystan Krueger (boys’ 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash); Casey Ploederl (boys’ high jump); Cameron Mauel (boys’ 800-meter run); and Brody Prill (boys’ pole vault).

Division 1

Hortonville’s boys’ and girls’ teams finished sixth and eighth, respectively, at the Appleton North Regional.

Charlie Wirth had both of the Polar Bear’s first-place finishes, as he won the boys’ 800- and 1,600-meter runs.

Also qualifying for Hortonville are Lyric Johnson (girls’ 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash); Aiden Leist (boys’ 400-meter dash); Bryson Soto (boys’ long jump); Ben Smith (boys discus); Paige Morrell (girls’ 400-meter dash); the boys’ 1,600-meter relay team of Chase Hughes, Adam Escudero, Wirth and Leist; and the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team of Aidan Paschke, Mason Lehmkuhl, Sam McKee and Escudero.

Qualifiers will head to the West De Pere Sectional.

The top three sectional finishers in Division 1 and the top four in divisions 2 and 3 will head to the state meet, set for Thursday to Saturday, June 24-26, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Division 3 athletes will compete on June 24, Division 2 on June 25 and Division 1 on June 26.
