City staff reorganized

New London city council approves new job positions
By Robert Cloud
The New London Common Council voted unanimously to approve four job descriptions at its June 8 meeting.
The approvals are part of a reorganization of the city’s administrative staff.
Two of the job descriptions were for public works director and parks and recreation director.
The two positions were consolidated in January 2018 when Chad Hoerth, who had been director of parks and recreation, became the public services director.
In the fall of 2020, Hoerth became the city administrator.
Under the reorganization plan, the two directors will report to the city administrator.
A recreational supervisor, aquatics supervisor and senior center manager will report to the parks and rec director.
The facilities superintendent and wastewater treatment plant lead operator will report to the public works director.
A streets/parks superintendent will report to both directors.
“You may recall that we don’t have funding in the current budget to add another full time position in the city, so we had to get creative and come up with a way to reorganize a few other positions to make that happen, specifically we looked at the Recreation Superintendent position, the Pool Manager position and the Pool Supervisor position. Those three positions would be eliminated and reorganized into two positions: an Aquatics Supervisor and a Recreation Supervisor,” Hoerth said in a May 26 memo to the Finance Committee.
The council also approved job descriptions for the recreational and aquatics supervisors.
