Gallery hosts grand opening

LittleWolf offers glass art in Iola

By Holly Neumann

LittleWolf Gallery will host its grand opening July 8-10 at 180 N. Main St. in Iola.

The gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day and feature live music by TAE on July 10.

Gallery owner Donovan Brooke is excited about his new venture.

“This is for my daughter,” he said. “I call her LittleWolf, so the gallery is named after her. I wanted her to grow up and have a creative space available for her and for Iola.”

The front part of the gallery will focus on American glass art, 3-D glass art and local artwork. The middle part of the building will be creative space and eventually become a glass shop.

The space also includes a 12-by-12-foot stage for live music events and a wine and cheese bar.

Brooke feels Iola is a great place for his business.

“I like the area,” he said. “I have met some really neat people here. There are some great things happening downtown and I am excited to be a part of that.”

Brooke believes his gallery will add to the community’s culture.

“Hopefully, it will bring in some people from out of town and get the community involved in another art form,” he said.

Brooke’s hope is to one day offer classes at the gallery.

“I started as a glassblower in college a million years ago and it stuck with me,” he said. “I enjoy the process of working with a substance that is about 2,000 degrees. It’s a life-long challenging medium. It’s a fun thing to watch.”

Future plans for the gallery include gaming, jam and open mike nights and more.
