New London and Clintonville will host American Legion baseball regional tournaments this month.
New London, Hortonville, Waupaca and Mosinee will compete in a Class AA regional in New London, while Clintonville will host a Class A regional that includes teams from Clintonville, Bonduel, Denmark, Little Chute, Mishicot, Oconto Falls and Wrightstown.
Both double-elimination regionals will get underway Friday, July 23, and wrap up Tuesday, July 27. Times for games have yet to be determined.
First-round games in New London’s Hatten Park are New London vs. Waupaca (game 1) and Hortonville vs. Mosinee (game 2).
The New London regional champion will advance to the state Class AA tournament, slated for Friday, July 30, to Tuesday, Aug. 3, in Antigo. Antigo will receive an automatic bid to state as the tournament host and the tournament will also include champions of the River Falls, Rhinelander, Ashwaubenon, Kaukauna, Beaver Dam and Holmen regionals.
First-round games at Clintonville’s W.A. Olen Field are Bonduel vs. Mishicot (game 1), Denmark vs. Oconto Falls (game 2) and Clintonville vs. Wrightstown (game 3). Little Chute has a bye in the first round.
The Clintonville regional champion will move on to the state Class A tournament, scheduled for July 30 to Aug. 3 in Denmark. The tournament will include champions of the Baldwin, West Salem, Stoddard, Marathon, Green Lake and St. Mary’s Springs regionals.
Legion state tournaments are back this year after COVID-19 caused organizers to cancel Wisconsin’s Legion baseball season in 2020. New London won the Class AA state championship in 2019, while Waupaca competed at the Class A state tournament in Westby.
