Family activities planned
ARTicipation Week set for Aug. 15-21 in Waupaca
During ARTicipation Week, Aug. 15-21, the Waupaca Community Arts Board has planned two interactive events where families can work as team – Scavenger Palooza and Kids’ Art Camp.
This year’s ARTicipation Week will offer live events and activities each day, ending in the Friday Night Street Dance, and Saturday’s Arts on the Square Festival.
The Scavenger Palooza begins during the ARTicipation Week Opening Day Ceremonies, noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, in Waupaca City Square.
Groups of any age and of any number of people can register their team’s name at the Opening Day event and pick up their Scavenger Palooza clues.
Team registration and clues also will be available beginning Aug. 15 at waupacaarts.org/scavenger-palooza-team-registration.
In addition, clues can be picked up throughout the week at participating downtown businesses.
“The clues will lead teams around the downtown Waupaca area, making it easy for groups to play the game without driving,” said Scavenger Palooza Chair Cheryl Sletten. “We want this to be an easy, fun activity for families and friend groups.”
All completed team packets must be submitted online or to the Arts on the Square Information Booth by 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 21.
Two team winners will be chosen and announced later that afternoon from the Main Tent Stage at Arts on the Square.
Because of Main Street construction this year, the Friday Night Street Dance and Arts on the Square festival will be on the Waupaca Recreation Center grounds at Badger and School streets.
Kids’ Art Camp
Youths ages 10 to 14 can attend a free, three-day Kids’ Art Camp which culminates in a live pop-up gallery art show curated by the students.
Taught by professional artists, Kids’ Art Camp is all about using art to connect.
Participants will create multiple projects using a variety of media, all with the theme of connection and community.
The art camp will culminate in a youth-run gallery at Arts on the Square, complete with a real art gallery opening on Friday night, and student-led community projects planned by the camp.
Kids’ Art Camp will run from noon to 3 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 18-20, at 415 School St., in the former Health and Fitness Center.
The camp requires pre-registration and has a limit of 12 children.
