Nollenberg, Anita Barbara (Henry)

My name is Anita Barbara (Henry) Nollenberg.

I was born on March 21, 1932 in the Town of Mukwa to the late Phillip and Laura (Kruger) Henry. I passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 from an illness, not covid related. I was the third child born of eight siblings; three died in infancy- a set of twin boys. My brothers were Donald and Loren and my sisters were Velma and Wilma. They passed away- I have lived longer than any of my family. I was born in the depression and we had very little as a family. I had 1 set of clothes for play, 1 set for school and 1 set for church and I put cardboard in my shoes to make them last longer. My mother baked bread and we ate corn meal mush for breakfast and supper. We had a small garden and in the summer that provided a few vegetables. At Christmastime, we were very lucky to get 1 item. We never had electric lights until I was 11 years old. We still pumped the water and heated it on the wood stove for cooking, laundry and bathing. Like most people, we had an unforgettable outhouse. I always helped my mother and was constantly learning new things. I attended Manawa High School and in my junior year quit and got married. I was united in marriage to Leo Nollenberg on February 21, 1948. We were blessed with our first child Marvin fourteen months later. He was such a beautiful and joyful child. Seventeen months later we had Lyle, a playmate for Marvin. They had so much fun together! To complete our family, we had Diane, Leon, Leona, Angela and Rollin. We lived in Fremont from 1948 to 1969. When we lived in Fremont, we all did a lot of fishing and we ate a lot of fish. In June 1969, we bought a farm, but we did not milk cows. We had a wood furnace and we cut wood, but it was so good to be on the land and be at nature. We only cleaned up all the dead wood. It had animals that we all could enjoy; the deer and rabbits and bear. The bear followed the kids from the woods at 1 time. They are still down on the land. In 1968, we bought a school bus for $200 and made a camper out of it. We went on our first trip to the Canadian Rockies, Banff and Lake Louise. I have been to most of the U.S. except four states. I have been to Hawaii twice, Alaska once and Europe three times.

Anita is survived by her children: Marvin (Barb) Nollenberg, Lyle (Pat) Nollenberg, Diane (Dennis) Gorges, Leon (Kristine) Nollenberg, Leona (Dean) Meyer, Angela (Mark) Zabel and Rollie (Tracy) Nollenberg; grandchildren: Tamara (Grant) Johnson, Tyler (Jolene) Nollenberg, Lyle J.
