Robert C Schneider, age 97 of Hortonville, died on August 23, 2021.

Robert was born in Readfield, WI on June 11, 1924 to Albert and Clara (Hangartner) Schneider. He married Ann Louise Furminger on April 14, 1956. They made their home in Hortonville. After graduating from Hortonville High School in 1942, Robert entered the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His studies were interrupted by WW2 and he served in the European Theater, 11th Armored Division in General Patton’s 3rd Army. He was a supply truck driver in the Battle of the Bulge and was in Austria by the end of the war. After the war, he attended Lawrence College and graduated in 1948. He joined the family business, Schneider Feed Mill in Hortonville and worked there until his retirement. Robert was very community-minded and served on the Hortonville Village Board and its various committees. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 55, Hortonville for 75 years and served as a commander and on various committees. He also belonged to the 11th Armored Division Assn and the Battle of the Bulge Assn and attended many of their reunions with Ann, his sons and grandchildren.

Robert served on the Appleton Vocational School Board and was on the Board of Directors when the first part of the Fox Valley Technical College was built. He belonged to the Wisconsin Feed Assn and served as its president. Robert was on the CESA School Placement Board, Outagamie County, Waupaca Library Board (OWLS), Mosquito Hill Nature Center Board, Fox Valley Community Foundation Board, Jury Commissioner for Outagamie County, Outagamie Historical Museum Board and the Hortonville Historical Committee. Robert and Ann loved to travel. They took trips with their sons, Garth and Reed, as they were growing up, always taking one pair of grandparents along to enjoy seeing the wonders of our beautiful country. Afterwards traveling to many Caribbean islands, Mexico, Central America, Europe, Canada, Iceland and Greenland. They enjoyed many summer seminars at Bjorklunden, Lawrence University’s northern campus in Door County.

Robert is survived by his wife Ann, his sons, Garth (Diane Ogilvie – Friebel) Schneider (Hortonville) and Reed (Beth) Schneider (Hortonville), his grandsons: Ian Schneider (special friend Samantha) Oshkosh, Ryker (Hannah) Schneider (Pulaski), Avery Schneider (Hortonville), Rob and Jen Friebel (Norfolk, VA), Kay and Ryan Myers (Madison, WI), Andrew (Courtney) Schneider (Shakopee, MN) and Benjamin (Maggie) Schneider (Madison). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Calvin Schneider, Lucille Schneider, Mikaiah, Matthew and Morgan Friebel, Charlotte Myers. Special friends are Raj and Denise Sadasivan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Clara (nee Hangartner) Schneider and his brother Arnold of Barrington, IL.

The funeral for Robert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Borchardt Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville with Jim Williams officiating. The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Hortonville, where full military honors will be held. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be designated for the Mosquito Hill Nature Center and/or the Hortonville American Legion, Hammond-Schmit Post 55.
