Season rolls on for three teams

Waupaca to play for Dairyland title

Three area amateur baseball teams remain in the hunt for a Grand Championship.
Waupaca won its Dairyland League semifinal Aug. 22 with a 1-0 victory over Bonduel at Lakemen Field.
The Lakemen will host Hofa Park at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at Lakemen Field for the league’s Grand Championship.
Hofa Park handed Hortonville a 9-5 defeat in the other semifinal and the Panthers also defeated the Lakemen 5-4 during the regular season.
Meanwhile, Scandinavia and Little Falls kept their season alive with wins in the Badger Amateur Baseball Association South-Central and West division finals, respectively, while Clintonville saw its season end with a loss to Gresham.
Scandinavia beat Plover 2-0 and Little Falls topped Caroline 8-4.
East Division champion Gresham will host Scandinavia at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 29 in one BABA semifinal, while Little Falls will host North Division champion Eland.
The winner of the Aug. 29 games will play for the BABA Grand Championship at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, with the Little Falls/Eland winner hosting the game.
Waupaca 1, Bonduel 0
One run was all the Lakemen needed to advance to their fifth straight Grand Championship game.
Cam Seidl struck out 15 batters to pick up the complete-game win on the mound as the Lakemen improved to 30-10 on the season.
Jason Ellie drove in Jake Pankratz with the game’s only run. Pankratz led the Lakemen with three hits, while Ryan Makuski, Jake Popham, Ellie and Adam Kennedy added one each.
Hofa Park 9, Hortonville 5
Hofa Park came into the game as the Dairyland’s No. 5 seed and knocked off the top-seeded Stars.
James Hornick hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and drove in five of Hofa Park’s runs.
Dan Wunderlich and Brett Kramer led the Stars with two hits each.
Little Falls 8, Caroline 4
Chris Dunn scattered seven hits over nine innings and struck out 14 batters to get the win.
Dunn, Kasey Morgan and Cam Gruenwald led the Loggers with two hits each, while Drew Radies added a home run and a pair of RBIs.
Justin Reminger drove in two of Caroline’s runs.
Gresham 19, Clintonville 7
Brock Smejkal hit a home run and led the A’s with three hits, but also took the loss on the mound in a matchup of East Division teams.
Jordan Koeppen and Hunter Vollmer had two hits for Clintonville, while Jared Cartwright, Turner Doornink, Zach Riemer, Matt Seefeldt and Mitch Ebben added one each.
Anthony Leeman led Gresham at the plate with four hits, including three doubles.
