Everts, Joann G. (Planert)

Joann Everts, age 70, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 at her home.

She was born on September 4, 1950 in New London, WI, to Glen and Maymie (Rader) Planert.

Our mom passed away at home, surrounded by her children, which is exactly what she wanted. Mom was a “Town of Mainer” and graduated from Shiocton High School in 1968. She went on to Fox Valley Tech and graduated in 1969. Mom stayed home and raised us kids until 1990 and then worked various jobs until she retired from Waupaca Mobil Truck Stop in May 2021. Mom had a sense of humor and often had us in tears. Us girls will especially miss our Sunday talks with Mom, a tradition we will carry on with our girls…sorry, no boys allowed. She enjoyed watching the Packers with Kenny, he taught her everything she knew about football and she loved that time with him and was in awe of all the stats he knew. Mom also enjoyed her many Christmas shopping excursions and various trips with her sister and best friend, Judy. The stories they’d share of their adventures had our stomachs hurting from laughter. She treasured her close friendship with her big sister. She also treasured her almost 50-year friendship and sisterhood with Maxine “Poody” Schilder. Those two had a time and many cherished memories together. Mom also had her online gang, as she called them. They were her special friends and she loved connecting and chatting with them. Mom frequently bragged about her grandchildren and loved her visits with them. She showed their pictures to everyone!! Mom enjoyed talking to people and loved many she met through her various jobs. We can’t count how many people called her “Mom” and we have no idea who all these “adopted kids” were. But if you called her mom, she loved you. You made her work time special for her and we thank you. Mom loved taking care of the animals on our farm in the early 80s and then again, the small backyard farm she had in the late 80s/early 90s. She named them all, they were all her babies. Mom also enjoyed feeding and watching her birds. In her final weeks, her two sons-in-law moved her bird feeders to right outside her window. They made her final days more special for her as the birds came to visit every day. We will miss our mom forever. She is back home but in our hearts for eternity.

Mom leaves behind three daughters, Lori (Joe) Lund, Shawn (Shawn) Durrant and Kelly Everts; son, Kenny (Tash) Everts; eight grandchildren: Kayci Phelps, DJ and Alli Lund, Brianne (Michael Alba), Brittany, and Emily (Jordon Derrickson) Durrant, and Desirae and Jessica Miller, four great-grandchildren, Destiny, Savanah, Eli, and baby girl due in December; one sister, Judy (Scott Yahle) Bunnell and sister-in-law Diane Planert; one aunt, Elna Carter. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sister-in-law, Francis and Dean (Rita) Planert.

We want to thank the staff at Appleton Thedacare and Compassus Hospice for the care given to our mom.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Weyauwega Park, Shelter #1 from noon to 4:00 p.m. Holly Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
