It didn’t count in the Bay or North Eastern conference standings, but that didn’t matter to the New London and Waupaca boys’ soccer teams.

The Bulldogs and Comets met Sept. 9 for a nonconference matchup in New London and played to a 1-1 tie.

The game remained scoreless until Waupaca’s Riley Wahler beat New London goalkeeper Sam Jahnke with a penalty kick 24 minutes into the second half.

It looked like the Comets might return home with a 1-0 win, but Juan Vande Guchte tied the game off of Daniel Olea’s assist with 3:21 to go in the game.

Both teams will be in action Thursday, Sept. 16. New London will head to Seymour for a Bay Conference matchup with the Thunder, while Waupaca has a North Eastern Conference game in Wrightstown.
