Clintonville 3-2 so far for season

A shorthanded Clintonville football team headed to Ripon Sept. 17 and returned home with a 22-0 nonconference win over St. John’s Northwestern Academies.

The Truckers will likely be without quarterback Kade Rosenow, who injured his collarbone Sept. 10 in a game at Kewaunee, for the rest of the season.

His replacement, freshman Sam Wegener, accounted for all three of the Truckers’ touchdowns against the Lancers.

His 16-yard pass to Brayden Branstrom in the first quarter gave the Truckers a 6-0 lead with 4:28 remaining in the first quarter.

Clintonville’s next drive also resulted in a touchdown pass, as Wegener hooked up with Jordan Wegener for a 13-yarder with 6:43 to go in the first half.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, but the Truckers added to their lead with the Wegeners teaming up for a 13-yard scoring pass with 2:50 left in the game.

Wegener completed 12 of 32 passes for 159 yards. Jace Schultz, who saw his first varsity action of the season filling in for the ill Braiden Behnke, led the team with 64 rushing yards.

The Truckers outgained the Lancers 281-186 and held the Lancers to 39 rushing yards on 26 carries.

Clintonville improved to 3-2 and will return to Packerland Conference play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at Southern Door.
