Polar Bears place third at FVA meet

Hume leads Waupaca golfers

Kate Downie and Alix Kundinger helped Hortonville place third out of 10 teams Sept. 23 at the Fox Valley Association girls’ golf meet at Greenville’s Chaska Golf Course.

Meanwhile, Waupaca sent three golfers to the North Eastern Conference meet Sept. 22 at Wander Springs Golf Course in Greenleaf.

FVA meet

Downie and Kundinger each carded an 85, followed by Savannah Teale (96), Maci McNichols (104), Cassie Cruz (107) and Reagan Sturn (108).

Kaukauna won the championship with a 353, followed by Neenah (362), Hortonville (370), Appleton North (371), Kimberly (372), Fond du Lac (391), Appleton West (399), Appleton East (415), Oshkosh West (458) and Oshkosh North (543).
Appleton North’s AJ Powell had the medalist round with a 76.

North Eastern meet

Freedom won the championship with a 388, followed by Denmark (412), Marinette (415), Wrightstown and Oconto Falls (440), Luxemburg-Casco (443), Little Chute (462) and Fox Valley Lutheran (465).

Waupaca had an incomplete team. Kya Hume led the Comets with a 112, while Leota Studzinski shot a 114 and Sophie Saunders a 130.

Freedom’s Callie Berg shot an 89 to earn medalist honors.

WIAA regionals

The road to state for Hortonville and Waupaca began Sept. 29.

Hortonville joined teams from Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, De Pere, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Neenah and West De Pere at a WIAA Division 1 regional meet at Ledgeview Golf Course in De Pere.

Meanwhile, Waupaca competed with Bonduel, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy, Luxemburg-Casco, Marinette, Oconto, Oconto Falls, Seymour and Sturgeon Bay at a Division 2 meet at Northbrook Golf Course in Luxemburg.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to sectional competitions scheduled for Oct. 4-6.

Sectional qualifiers from the De Pere Regional will head to Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau on Monday, Oct. 4, while qualifiers from the Luxemburg-Casco Regional will compete Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Hilly Haven Golf Course in De Pere.

The WIAA state meet will be held Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 11-12, at Madison’s University Ridge Golf Course.
