McCauley, Harriet “Punky” A.

Harriet “Punky” A. McCauley, age 83 of Clintonville, passed away Monday morning October 4, 2021 at Aster Assisted Living in Clintonville.

Harriet was born on September 6, 1938 in New London as the daughter of the late George and Margaret (Quall) McCauley. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1956. Harriet quickly became active in her community as an officer in Jobs Daughters and spent her summers as a life guard and swimming instructor at the Cloverleaf Lakes. She attended UW Stevens Point and entered training for the first class of Cytotechnology in Madison. Harriet then worked for Bellin Hospital as a cytotechnologist from 1959 to 1967 prior to her return home to become the head librarian at Clintonville’s Finney Public Library. During her tenure a new library was built and Friends of the Library Group was formed. Harriet retired from her position in 2001. She was also active as a past President of the Clintonville Rotary Club, served on the Clintonville Public School Board as clerk for years, was a state officer in the Order of the Eastern Star, and was elected clerk for the Town of Belle Plaine as she lived most of her life on Pine Lake. She continued her involvement as a member of the Cloverleaf Lakes Association, Clintonville Community Foundation, Goodfellows, Graceland Cemetery Board, and was a charter member of the Clintonville Historical Society. Harriet was an animal lover as was evident in the love she had for her many dogs and even a horse at one time. She was a lifetime member of Christ Congregational United Church of Christ in Clintonville and will be missed by many throughout the community.

Survivors include nieces and nephews: Mike (Amy) Mayek, Tim (Deb) Mayek, Christine (Brian) Gorelick, Jenny (Mike) Stemple, Joe (Bridget) Mayek, and John Mayek. Also numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and friends. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Mary Mayek and Wesley (Maxine) McCauley, and a nephew Jesse McCauley.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory in Clintonville with a short message from Rev. Jill Meyer beginning at 11:45 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established by her family.
