Dr. David Gamm will present “The Potential for Stem Cells to Treat Eye Diseases” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18.

Hosted by Winchester Academy, this virtual program will be broadcast on WILW 96.3 FM or viewed on WIN-TV, Spectrum Cable Channel 991, Winchester Academy Facebook page or YouTube live stream.

Audience members may submit questions to the speaker via Facebook or by phoning 715-942-9917 during the program.

Gamm is professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences and director of the McPherson Eye Research Institute in Madison.

His clinical practice is in pediatric ophthalmology, and his research interests focus on human retinal development and disease.

Inherited and acquired degenerative diseases of the retina are a significant cause of incurable vision loss worldwide. Gamm’s lab is at the forefront in developing cell-based therapies to combat retinal degenerative diseases.

Gamm will discuss research that utilizes stem cell technology to investigate cellular and molecular events that occur during human retinal differentiation and generate cells for use in human retinal disease modeling and cell-based rescue or replacement strategies.

Through his research Gamm hopes to optimize strategies to delay or reverse the effects of blinding disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration.

Rita and Bob Danielson are sponsors of Dr. Gamm’s program.
